A Somali lawmaker and deputy chairman of parliament’s financial committee said large-scale of money was taken out of the State Treasury in the past few years due to the lack of accountability in Somalia.
Idle Mohamed Gedi, the MP underlined that the parliamentary committee has submitted to the government a document showing $4.5 Million stolen from the national treasury, but did not react.
The Somali lawmaker has accused several ministers in the cabinet of embezzlement and corruption of public funds as the country enters a transitional period of elections due to take place later this year.
“Auditor was paralyzed, so corruption engulfed all government agencies,” Mohamed Idle said.
There has been warning over possible corruption by government officials to steal public assets and during this transition era, a time that current federal government expires it mandate.
